TLR STATEMENT ON HB 272
TWIA Reform Bill
(Austin, TX) Texans for Lawsuit Reform issued the following statement today following the passage of HB 272, the TWIA Reform Bill. TLR President Richard J. Trabulsi, Jr., said:
“We congratulate the House on passing this important legislation which will curb the excessive legal fees paid by TWIA and create an expedited process for handling the claims of coastal homeowners who suffer windstorm damage. This legislation will also help return financial solvency to TWIA so that Texas taxpayers will not be forced to absorb a TWIA shortfall in the wake of future hurricanes.”
Trabulsi applauded the leadership of Speaker Joe Straus and his team and the diligence and competence of House Insurance Committee Chairman, John Smithee (R-Amarillo), and his Committee. “During the floor debate, it was clear that Members have great respect for Chairman Smithee and trust his judgment," Trabulsi said, adding, “We look forward to working with Lt. Gov. Dewhurst and the Senate to pass this much needed legislation.”
