(AUSTIN, TX) Texans for Lawsuit Reform issued the following statement today regarding HB 150 reported out of the House Redistricting Committee. TLR President Richard J. Trabulsi, Jr., said:

Texans for Lawsuit Reform is interested in redistricting because it will impact Texas elections for years. Politics impact policy. Elections matter. TLR PAC, in its campaign activities, has consistently worked to promote and maintain a majority in the Texas Legislature of conservative men and women who believe in a fair, balanced and predictable civil justice system.

TLR commends the careful, thorough and transparent process undertaken by Chairman Burt Solomons and the House Redistricting Committee in producing a redistricting map that is well positioned to withstand review by either the U.S. Department of Justice or the courts. The map reflects the philosophical makeup of the electorate and its ethnic diversity. Our judgment is that alternative statewide maps that have been proffered publicly recently are not likely to result in sustainable conservative majorities.

TLR believes that it is in the best interests of the House of Representatives and the State of Texas for Members to work with Chairman Solomons in making any adjustments to the Committee map that may be deemed wise by the Chairman when redistricting is debated on the House floor.
