Attorney Mikal Watts Resigns, Shuts Down Puerto Rico Office

Here’s what happened: Watts Guerra, the well-known San Antonio mass tort law firm, is closing its Puerto Rico office and laying off about a third of its staff.
- According to reports, Watts will likely retain the mass tort docket while Guerra retains the personal injury cases.

ICYMI: In 2015, Watts was one of seven individuals charged with defrauding and representing thousands of defendants without contacting them to collect payouts from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
- In a speech last year, Watts’ remarks implied litigation funders and lead generators were to blame for fraudulent mass tort claims.
