Texans for Lawsuit Reform (TLR) released the following statement today upon the Texas Supreme Court decisions in three important cases: In re SpaceX, In re Oncor, and Werner Enterprises vs. Blake.

“The Supreme Court was correct to vacate the trial courts’ orders in SpaceX and Oncor, and to reverse the Fourteenth Court of Appeals’ decision in Werner.  

“The increase in the number and amount of nuclear verdicts — verdicts of $10 million or more — is distorting Texas’s legal system and discouraging capital investment in Texas. The decisions delivered today will begin to improve our litigation environment. For example, the SpaceX case should help discourage lawyers from turning run-of-the-mill fender-bender vehicle accidents into excessive verdicts by vastly inflating medical damages.
